ABOUT CBCGH

In the early 1970s, Chinese Christians in the Hartford area began to hold regular Bible study meetings because they longed for God's word and needed to have more frequent contact with Christians. In May 1977, under God's guidance, Pastor Guo Jingwei and his wife, Chinese pastors of Calvary Baptist Church in Newport, began to lead Sunday worship among us. The venue was the First Baptist Church in West Hartford, and the number of people attending the meeting was about ten to twenty.

In 1981, due to the increase in the number of members, the Chinese Baptist Church of Greater Hartford was officially established for the convenience of governance. Two years later (1983), Wong Ka-ki was invited to be a full-time preacher to take the responsibility of teaching and lead the whole church to promote the holy work. In 1996, Pastor Wong left and the church hired Pastor Chen Qiyou to pastor. At this time, the church had grown to more than 100 people, and the youth ministry was also started under the promotion of brothers Liang Huiguo and Lu Zhuoping. In 1999, the English church worship began, hosted by Pastor Liang Huiguo, and held simultaneously with the Chinese worship. In 2002, Pastor Liang left and the church hired Timothy West as a full-time preacher. In 2005, the Cantonese church began to meet. From 2008 to 2013, Pastor Yung Yi-yan was the pastor of the Cantonese church. From 2014, Pastor Fung Ka-lok was the pastor of the Cantonese church. Pastor Huang Haoxin was the pastor of the Mandarin Church from 2011 to 2014. Pastor Ge Kaiyuan was the pastor of the Mandarin Church from 2015 to 2021. Pastor Yan Lu took over as the pastor of the Mandarin Church in April 2022.

In addition to Sunday worship, the church also has many other regular and irregular activities. Regular activities include Sunday school, choir and Wednesday prayer meeting on Sunday morning, adult and children's Bible study on Friday, youth fellowship activities, evergreen fellowship and family gatherings. There is a sister meeting once a month. There are irregular evangelistic gatherings, missionary annual conferences, concerts, etc. The church also actively participates in the annual Northeastern Christian Retreat with other Chinese churches.
